Public Sector Takes Lead in Corporate Social Responsibility

Press Release from Universum

SINGAPORE, September 2013 – Universum releases the benchmark index: “Best Corporate Social Responsibility Programmes in Singapore 2013”, based on the preferences of over 6,000 university students who participated in its 2013 student survey.  Eight out of the top 10 organisations best associated with CSR by the future talent population are homegrown, of which seven belong to the public sector. The Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth takes the lead, followed by Ministry of Manpower and Ministry of Social and Family Development.

Singapore students consider CSR to be increasingly important in employers they find attractive to work for, as evident from the survey findings between last year and this year. Joakim Ström, Managing Director – APAC, Universum says, “Companies in Singapore have definitely caught up with their counterparts in other developed countries in incorporating Corporate Social Responsibility into their business as well as their culture. Talent is also starting to discern employers based on their CSR practices, so every organisation should communicate about their initiatives with current and future employees. However, we would caution against potential negative effects to the employer brand – and corporate brand – for organisations that currently pay lip service to CSR.”
